Cantonese Food Zine
Growing up in the United States, my biggest connection with my Chinese identity is through food. But not just any type of food: Cantonese food. Regarded as the most difficult Chinese cuisine to master, the key to Cantonese food is to retain the natural flavor of the ingredients. Described as sweet, fresh, and natural, Cantonese food is a very healthy cuisine.

Cover: Rice... the starch we pair with almost every meal.
P2-3: Dim Sum- A communal dining an social experience filled with small shared dishes named dim sum and a kettle of strong tea.
P4: Old Fire Soup- THE most representative food item of Cantonese cuisine. We are well-known for our clear broth soups which take hours to prepare.
P5: Congee- The ultimate comfort food. I like to call it the chicken noodle soup of Cantonese cuisine. It is a popular food to eat when one is sick.
P6-7: Barbecue pork rice- Inspired by the video Food In Chinese Cinema by the YouTuber Accented Cinema, bbq pork rice is a common lunch of the working class. I wanted to give a shoutout to such a common but important role to our culture.
P8: Dessert Soup- To end things off, I included tong sui which is also known as dessert soups. Sweet and healthy, the guilt-free dessert.
